Lesley Manville werd geboren op 12 maart 1956 in Brighton, East Sussex, Engeland. Ze is een meermaals bekroonde actrice van theater, film en televisie en heeft veel samengewerkt met regisseur Mike Leigh. Ze staat bekend om Another Year (2010), All or Nothing (2002), Topsy-Turvy (1999) en Secrets & Lies (1996), en haar optreden in Phantom Thread (2017), die werd genomineerd voor de Academy Award voor Beste vrouwelijke bijrol. Ze had ook een bijrol in Maleficent (2014). Manville's uitgebreide podiumcarrière omvat rollen in As You Like It, Les Liaisons Dangereuses en The Alchemist. Haar filmdebuut was in Dance with a Stranger (1985). Lesley kreeg een OBE in de 2015 Queens Birthday Honours List.
